3D printing the final body

As mentioned previously sometimes compromises need to be made in the implementation of a concept. With the deadline looming closer and considering the complexity of the shape of the body I opted to have the body 3D printed.

In saying that it was a compromise; 3d printing of objects can now give a high level of durability and finish; and considering the whole object had already been designed and verified in 3d it made sense to utilise this technology. After the production of the smaller model earlier I had sanded it down and gave it a light coat of primer to see how the plastic took the finish.

I could see through a very quick application of spray that the material took the finish very well and that it would be a viable option.

I had to re-draw the object in solidworks to be compatible with the 3d printer properly…
